How the stones differ

Agate is the workhorse of this catalog. It takes a high polish, it comes in almost every color, and its banding is what most people picture when they think of stone homeware. Rose quartz is softer in tone and more translucent, so it glows when a lamp or a window sits behind it. Amethyst runs from pale lilac to deep purple and is usually cut in smaller pieces because large clean slabs are rare.

Clear quartz and smoky quartz are the same mineral at different ends of the color range. Clear reads almost like ice; smoky carries warm grey and brown. Aventurine is green and more opaque than the quartzes. Geode pieces are cut so the crystal cavity is left open, which is why they end up as bowls and bookends rather than flat surfaces. Marble is not a crystal at all, so it behaves differently again: even color, fine veining, and a matte weight the quartzes do not have.

Why no two are the same

Each piece is cut from a natural slab. A slab is bought whole and worked until it runs out, so a run of trays from one slab will share a family resemblance and the next run will not match it. The photographs show a representative piece. The banding, the depth of color and the exact outline of the one you receive will be its own.

The metal is electroformed, not plated. Metal is grown onto the stone in a bath until it has real thickness, which is why the rims follow every irregularity of a natural edge instead of stopping at a neat line.

Will my piece look exactly like the photograph?

No, and that is the point. Every piece is cut from a natural slab, so the banding, color depth and outline are unique to it. The photograph shows a representative piece from the same stone and the same run.

Which stones are the most hard-wearing?

Agate, clear quartz and smoky quartz are the hardest and most forgiving. Rose quartz and amethyst are the same family but are more often cut thin, so they deserve more care. Marble is softer than all of them and will mark if acid is left on it.

Is the metal real, or is it a coating?

It is electroformed, which means metal is grown onto the stone in a bath until it has genuine thickness. It is not a sprayed or dipped coating.

Can I order several pieces that match each other?

Pieces cut from the same slab will be close, but we cannot promise a match across separate orders. If matching matters, order the set together and say so with the order.

Do you ship worldwide, and are duties included?
