About the Agate
Brown agate runs through caramel, amber and dark coffee, with cream and white bands cutting between them. Each slice is taken across the nodule, so the banding shows as rings that tighten toward the middle of the stone.
Held against light the caramel layers warm to honey and the thinner cream bands go nearly clear, while the darkest brown stays solid. Where a slice was cut through the center, a pocket of small quartz crystals can sit at its heart.
How It's Made
Brown agate is laid piece by piece into a 10" round circle, so the stones make up the whole face of a clock 10" in diameter rather than sitting on a backing board. The edge is electroformed, with real metal grown onto the stone until it has thickness and permanently bonded to it, not a coating that can rub off. Gold is the natural match for warm brown; silver and rose gold are also made, and the hands follow the finish chosen.
