About the Crystal Agate
White crystal agate carries both halves of its name on one face. The agate part is banded and milky, laid in rings of snow and pale gray; the crystal part is where the banding gave out and small quartz points grew instead, leaving a rough sparkling pocket in the middle of a smooth piece.
Those crystal pockets are the only bright spots on an otherwise soft face, and they flare and go dull as the light in the room moves. Everywhere else the stone stays subdued, with the thinner bands passing enough light to keep the white from looking painted.
How It’s Made
White crystal agate is arranged in a 10" round circle, the stones making up the full face of a clock 10" in diameter. The edge is electroformed: real metal grown onto the stone and permanently bonded, not a coating that can rub off with handling. The edging is made in gold, silver or rose gold, and the hour and minute hands are finished to match whichever is chosen. On a near-white stone that choice sets the temperature of the whole piece.
