The Sign
A rectangle with the four corners clipped back at forty-five degrees and a double rule running just inside the edge. Three lines: the number large across the top, the family name below it, and the year between two small diamonds at the foot.
No motif at all. The clipped corners and the double rule are the only things going on, and that is enough.
Craftsmanship
Copper and brass grown over the sculpted form rather than cast. A plain design is harder to make well than an ornate one, because there is nothing to distract from a rule that wanders or a corner that is not quite forty-five. The rules, the diamonds and the three lines of lettering are cut at their own heights, 2 to 5 mm off the ground, which is what stops the plate looking printed. It is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid all the way through.
Readable from the road
The number takes roughly half the height of the plate. Set in raised brass over a ground left dark, it reads as contrast from the sidewalk, and the two smaller lines beneath do their work close up. This is the most legible design in the range at a distance, precisely because nothing else is competing.
Built for outside
UV-protected and weather-treated after finishing. It will not fade in sun or mark in rain, and there is no steel in it to rust and stain the siding.
Personalization
Three things: the number, the family name, and the year. Send them exactly as they should appear. Long family names sit better on this design than on any of the shaped ones, because the full width of the plate is available to them. A design preview comes back by email before anything is made.

The most forgiving of the three-line designs. A long family name and a four-digit number are still clean at 8 x 6, and the wide sizes at 10 x 6 and 10 x 8 are better again.
Mounting
Three ways, chosen at checkout.
- Keyhole slots: two screws in the wall. The straight top edge makes this the easiest sign in the range to get level.
- Peel-and-stick tape: sealed strips already applied to the back. No drilling.
- Floating stud mount: reinforced studs that hold it clear of the wall, so the clipped corners each throw their own small shadow.
Hardware and instructions are included with all three.
Where it works
A modern front door, a rendered wall, a dark timber entrance, an apartment lobby. It is the one to choose when the architecture is plain and you do not want the sign arguing with it.
Gifting
The safest of the three-line signs to buy for somebody else, because there is no motif to get wrong. All you need is the number, the surname and the year.
