About the Agate
Smoky gray agate holds its color in layers of charcoal, pewter and off-white, laid down in bands that mirror the outline of the slab. The darkest bands are close to slate and the palest are almost clear, so the face carries contrast without any strong color in it.
Where the bands end there is often a run of small quartz crystals in the center of the stone. Smoky agate is translucent at the thin edges, and against daylight the gray lightens and the banding shows through as a set of fine parallel lines.
How It’s Made
An irregular slab, thick and substantial, keeping the natural break of the stone as the outline of the clock. Metal is electroformed along that edge, grown onto the agate and permanently bonded so the rim has real thickness, not a leaf or a coating that rubs off with handling. Silver is the closest match here and disappears into the gray, gold makes a deliberate contrast against it, and rose gold adds warmth to a cool stone. The hands are matched to the edging chosen.
