About the Crystal Agate
White crystal agate is chosen here for its openings. Where an ordinary agate is solid, these stones break into pockets of small quartz crystals, and the face carries those sparkling areas alongside the smooth banded white and the gray lines running through it.
Stones of similar tone are set together, so the color stays within a narrow range of white and cream while the texture changes constantly. The crystal pockets take light directly and flash; the banded areas pass it more softly, and the face reads brightest in daylight.
How It's Made
Agate of similar tones and colors is joined with a clear epoxy resin poured over the stones, which sets them into one firm face measuring 9" x 14". The outer edge is electroformed, with metal grown onto the stone and permanently bonded to it, so the border has genuine thickness and will not rub off as a leaf or a coating can. Gold suits the cream in the stone, silver holds it cool against the crystal, and rose gold warms the border a little. The hands match the edging chosen.
