About the Agate
Purple agate is the one deep note here. The handle stone shifts from a dusty lilac in the wider layers to something closer to plum where the banding tightens, and the line between the two is sharp enough to see clearly.
The tray itself is white crystal agate, pale and banded in white, cream and light gray, with pockets of small quartz crystals left visible where the stone was cut. Purple beside white is the strongest contrast in the set.
How It’s Made
The 9" x 14" top is made from agate of similar tones and colors joined with a clear epoxy resin, poured over the pieces until they hold as a single firm plate. The stone is trimmed with electroformed brass, real metal grown onto it and permanently bonded rather than a leaf or coating that can rub off. Purple agate handles set on solid brass are fitted at the short ends, with the finish carried across the handles and the tray together.
