About the Blue Agate
Blue agate bands in rings. The color was laid down layer by layer as the stone filled from the outside in, so a cut slab shows a set of roughly concentric lines, deep blue in places and fading to pale gray-blue or white in others.
The bands are not all equally dense. The pale ones let light through and the darker ones hold it, so a round plate can look flat and even on a table and then light up at the rim when the sun catches it. A crystal pocket near the middle will glint where the banding stops.
How It’s Made
A disc of agate is cut and the whole circumference is electroformed, with metal grown onto the stone until the rim has real thickness and is permanently bonded rather than laid on as a leaf or coating that can rub off. The two handles are solid brass, in a classic scroll, leaf scroll, laurel arch or open leaf pattern, and take the same finish as the rim.

Every disc comes out of a different piece of stone, so the width of the bands and the depth of the blue are never the same twice.

Use and Care
Use it on a coffee table or bar cart for glasses and bottles, or at the table for cheese and fruit with a liner or servingware over the stone. Wipe the stone and brass with a soft, damp cloth and dry them straight away.
