About the Blue Agate
Cut square, blue agate shows the full run of its banding corner to corner. The lines start tight and close at one side, open out across the middle of the plate and often end in a paler, more crystalline zone, so the eye is carried straight across the stone.
The blue is layered rather than uniform. Denser bands look almost opaque and matte-dark, while the paler ones lift and carry light, which means the same square can look navy in a shaded room and gray-blue by a window.
How It’s Made
The agate is cut to a square plate, a format that holds more than a round tray of the same width. The four cut edges are electroformed, with metal grown onto the stone until the rim has real thickness and is permanently bonded, not a leaf or coating that can rub off. A handle is fitted on two opposite sides; the handles are solid brass, in a classic scroll, leaf scroll, laurel arch or open leaf pattern, finished to match the rim.

Use and Care
Lay out a full cheese board or a spread of small bowls on it, keeping a liner or servingware between the food and the stone. Wipe the agate and the brass with a soft, damp cloth and dry them straight away.
