About the Clear Quartz

Clear quartz grows in six-sided columns that end in a point, and a cluster is a group of those columns fused at the base and fanning out at the top. The stone is colorless. What you see is not color but structure: the flat crystal faces, the seams where two columns grew into each other, and the milky white at the base where growth started.

A polished quartz dome is smooth and glassy and shows the light as a single highlight. A raw cluster scatters it instead, throwing small bright points from a dozen faces at once, and the thinner tips go almost transparent with light behind them.

How It's Made

The clusters are used as they grew, with the crystal faces untouched, and seated at the base only. That base is electroformed, real metal grown onto the stone until the collar is thick and permanently bonded to it, never a leaf or coating that can rub off. Each cluster is then screwed tightly onto the end of a stainless steel rod, one at each end, so the stone forms both the grip and the ornament.

Details

  • Material: natural clear quartz clusters, stainless steel rod, electroformed brass
  • Set size: 4 handles
  • Height: 35 mm / 1.38 inches, the protrusion from the surface without the cluster knob
  • Total length: about 170 mm / 6.7 inches including the gemstone clusters
  • Hole to hole: 101 mm / 4 inches
  • Finish: electroformed brass on the clusters

No two quartz clusters are exactly alike, so the two ends of a handle differ in outline and in how the points lie.

Fit and Installation

These take the standard two-screw fixing on drawers, cabinet doors and wardrobe fronts, drilled 101 mm / 4 inches hole to hole. The clusters thread onto the rod and can be turned back down by hand if one loosens. Tighten the fixings by hand rather than over-torquing them.

Care

Wipe the steel rod with a soft dry cloth and keep household cleaners away from the quartz points, which are open where the crystal broke.
