About the Metal

There is no stone in this tray. The metal is the material, built up by electroforming until it has real thickness and can be picked up and used, and every ridge and hollow of the coral-like texture is metal all the way through rather than a pattern pressed into a sheet.

Finish is what changes the character. Gold reads warm and reflective and flattens the texture slightly; silver is cooler and shows the ridges more sharply; the antique finish darkens the recesses so the raised work stands out and the tray looks older than it is. Light broken up by that much surface never sits flat.

How It's Made

The tray is a shallow round dish, 0.5" deep, worked across its whole face in an intricate coral-like texture. The form is built in the electroforming bath, where metal is grown onto it layer by layer until the walls hold their own shape and the fine detail is preserved in metal of real thickness. It is then finished in gold, silver or antique.

Because the metal is grown rather than stamped, the depth of the texture and the way the finish settles into it vary slightly between trays.
