The Plaque
Landscape format with a shaped bracket top, and along the lower edge a rolling pin sculpted in relief with two lemons beside it. The recipe runs across the wider field in the original handwriting, title at the head, signature wherever it fell on the card.
The wide shape suits a recipe written the way most people write them, in short lines across the page rather than down it.
The handwriting is the point
What is on the card is what goes into the metal. Shorthand, half-words, the ingredient added later in different ink, the line that runs uphill. We do not retype it and we do not correct it. The value is in the hand, not in the instructions.
Craftsmanship
Real copper and brass grown over the sculpted form rather than poured into a mold, which is the only way lettering this fine holds its edge. The rolling pin, the lemons and the writing are each cut at their own height, between 2 and 5 mm off the ground, which is what gives the motif its roundness instead of leaving it flat. The plaque is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid through. Every line of text sits in its own shadow, which is what lets you read a whole recipe off a piece of brass from three feet away.
Personalization
The recipe in the original hand, plus a title line at the head. Photograph the card flat in daylight with all four edges visible. Stains and creases are welcome; they are part of what makes it that card and not a printout. You approve a digital preview before we make anything.
Built to last
UV-protected and weather-treated after finishing, so kitchen steam, splashes and strong afternoon light are all fine. It wipes clean without marking.

Wide recipes with an ingredient list beside a method fit best at 10 x 8 and above. Anything with more than about twelve lines is worth sizing up.
Mounting
Three ways, chosen at checkout.
- Keyhole slots: two screws, lifts off when you want to wipe behind it.
- Peel-and-stick tape: sealed strips already applied, no drilling into tile.
- Floating stud mount: reinforced studs that hold it clear of the wall with no fixing on show.
Hardware and instructions are included with all three.
Where it works
Above a counter, behind a cake stand, on the wall of a pantry or a utility room. Wide pieces suit the space over a doorway too, where a portrait plaque never fits.
Care
A dry cloth. Nothing abrasive and no polish, the dark ground is what makes the writing legible.
