About the Green Agate
Green agate reads deeper than most people expect. The color sits somewhere between moss and bottle green, broken by bands of gray-white quartz, and the green often pools toward the outside of a disc with the paler crystal gathered at the middle.
Against a wood or marble table the green looks almost solid. Turn it toward a window and the thinner bands go translucent and take on an olive cast, so the same plate reads flat and dark in one light and lit from within in another.
How It’s Made
A disc is cut from the agate and its full circumference is electroformed, with real metal grown onto the stone until the rim has thickness and is permanently bonded, rather than a leaf or coating that can rub off. Two handles are then set opposite each other, and the handles are solid brass, made as a classic scroll, a leaf scroll, an open leaf or a laurel arch. The rim and the handles take the same finish in silver, rose gold or gold.

No two discs are cut from the same stone, so the depth of green and the pattern of the banding change from tray to tray.
