About the Agate
Green agate is banded stone: rings of deep green, moss and sage circling a paler core, drawn by layers of silica that settled one over another and were then cut across. Width varies band to band, so the rhythm of the pattern is never even.
Against light the outer bands turn translucent and the green brightens; away from a window the same plate looks dense and cool. That swing between lit and heavy is the reason agate gets used flat on a table where light rakes across it.
How It’s Made
A 10" x 15" rectangle. The agate is composite, built from pieces of similar tone joined with a clear epoxy resin poured over them so the serving surface sets as one firm plate, with electroformed brass around the stone edge, grown onto it and permanently bonded. Handles come in three shapes, open leaf, plain modern or laurel arch, and all of them are solid brass.

No two plates carry the same banding, and green agate in particular varies in how much white it holds.

Use and Care
Serve cheese, fruit or drinks from it with a liner, board or servingware between the food and the stone. Hand wash only, then dry with a soft cloth; not dishwasher safe.
