About the Agate
Smoky gray agate is a neutral with movement in it. Bands of ash, pewter and pale smoke run beside narrow white lines, and the gray shifts warm or cool depending on how much brown sits in the layer.
The stone is at its best backlit. Thin bands go half-clear, the way smoke does when a light is behind it, while the heavier gray holds firm. On a dark counter the plate reads almost silver; on white marble it reads as a soft shadow.
How It’s Made
A rectangular plate of 10"x15" with a handle at each short end. The stone is composite, built from agate of similar tone joined with a clear epoxy resin poured over the pieces to make one firm plate, and the whole edge is trimmed with electroformed brass, real metal grown onto the stone and permanently bonded rather than a coating that rubs off. The handles are solid brass, offered in silver, rose gold or gold along with the tray.
