About the Agate
White agate is not one white. The bands run from chalk through ivory to a warm cream, and between them sit translucent seams that let a little light through, so the face reads pale from a distance and layered up close.
Because there is no strong color, the structure of the stone becomes the subject: the concentric lines, the places where a band pinches out, the occasional gray shadow at the center of a piece. In daylight the whole panel brightens and the seams turn almost clear.
How It’s Made
Hand hewn white agate is joined in similar tones and then sealed under clear epoxy resin poured over the whole 10" x 15" panel so it holds firm. Around the outside, real metal is electroformed onto the stone, grown on until it has thickness and permanently bonded, never a coating that can rub off. A pale stone takes any of the three finishes: gold warms the cream, rose gold tints it, silver keeps it cold and clean.
