About the Agate
Moss agate is clear to milky quartz with dark green inclusions branching through it. The green is mineral, not plant, but it spreads like moss or fern held inside the stone, thick in some areas and thin enough to see through in others.
Left rough rather than polished flat, the surface keeps its natural bumps and broken faces, and light catches in the raw quartz between the green.
How It's Made
This version is a nugget: a small piece of rough agate kept chunky instead of being ground down to an even round, so the original surface of the stone survives on the front. The edge is electroformed, real metal grown onto the stone until it has genuine thickness and is bonded permanently, not a leaf or coating that can rub off. The metal follows the irregular outline rather than a circle. Thick metallic gold is standard, with silver and rose gold also made.
Details
- Material: natural moss green rough agate with copper and brass fittings
- Set size: one knob with its bolt
- Diameter: 1" to 1.25"
- Projection: 1.25"
- Bolt: 1.75" brass bolt
- Finish: electroformed gold, with silver and rose gold to order
Every nugget is a different piece of rough, so the outline, the depth of the green and the size within that range all vary.
Fit and Installation
One of the smaller knobs here, which makes it easy to fit in a row along small drawers or a glazed cabinet. It mounts through one hole with the 1.75" brass bolt supplied and no additional hardware. Tighten by hand rather than over-torquing the bolt.
Care
Dust with a soft dry cloth, working around the rough faces. Keep household cleaners off the stone and the metal.
