The Sign
A shield-shaped plaque bordered in continuous knotwork, with a trinity knot raised above the head and a pair of spirals closing the foot. The family name is set across the broad top, the bar line under it, the year at the point.
There is no monogram letter on this design. The triquetra sits where the initial would go on the other signs, and it is the better choice here, because a Roman letter in the middle of Celtic interlace never quite belongs.
Craftsmanship
Interlace is only interlace if the strands actually pass over and under one another, and that is a height problem rather than a drawing problem. Grown in copper and brass over a sculpted core, each strand takes its turn on top, so the border genuinely weaves instead of being a printed pattern of a weave. The knot, the border and the lettering occupy the full 2 to 5 mm range above the blackened ground. The shield is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid through.
Built to last
Sealed under a UV-protective finish. The deep channels in the knotwork keep their shadow rather than clouding, which is what holds the over-and-under readable from across a room.
Personalization
Three lines: the family name, the bar line and the year. IRISH PUB and SNUG both work on the middle line if WHISKEY BAR is not what you want. The renders show WHISKY, the Scottish spelling; we set whichever you type. A design preview is emailed before we begin.

Mounting
Three ways, chosen at checkout.
- Keyhole slots: two screws in the wall, simple to level.
- Peel-and-stick tape: sealed strips already fitted. No drilling, which matters on a tiled or paneled bar wall.
- Floating stud mount: reinforced studs that stand it off the wall so it throws its own shadow.
Hardware and instructions come with all three.
Where it works
A snug, a pub room, a bar built into a stone alcove. It suits deep green and dark red paint, and it holds up well against a busy wall because the border contains it.
Gifting
For an Irish or Scottish household, or a family who trace their name back to one. The trinity knot means it works as a gift even when you do not know which initial they would want.
Care
A dry cloth now and then. No polish, nothing abrasive, and nothing wet left on the dark ground.
