The Sign
An arched plaque with scrolls turning outward at both shoulders and a spray of foliage closing the foot. The initial is set in a circle at the crown of the arch, the family name beneath, then the bar line, then the year.
The scrolls widen the sign exactly where a plain arch would be at its narrowest, which changes the proportion of the whole thing and gives it a Victorian rather than a modern outline.
Craftsmanship
Scrollwork has to curl away from the surface or it looks drawn on. Each volute is grown over a sculpted form so it lifts, tightens and finishes with a raised eye at the center. The foliate foot is cut in overlapping leaves at three depths. Scrolls, monogram, foliage and lettering are all within 2 to 5 mm of the blackened ground, at more than one height across the design. The plaque is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid through, and the shaped edge is finished all the way around.
Built to last
UV-protective seal over the face. The undercuts in the scrollwork hold their shadow, which is what keeps the volutes looking like they turn.
Personalization
Four fields: family name, bar line, year and one initial for the circle at the crown. The body of the arch is broad, so a long surname sits well. The renders show WHISKY. Type WHISKEY and WHISKEY is what we make. A design preview is emailed for approval, and nothing is produced until you have given it.

Mounting
Three options, chosen when you order.
- Keyhole slots: the straightforward way, two screws.
- Peel-and-stick tape: sealed adhesive strips fitted before dispatch. Good on paint, tile and finished timber.
- Floating stud mount: gusseted studs that lift it off the wall and put a shadow line under it.
Fixings and instructions are included whichever you take.
Where it works
A gin bar, a snug, a wall with pictures in gilt frames. It suits deep paint colors and it is the most traditional outline of the eighteen, so it goes where the industrial and deco designs would jar.
Gifting
A wedding or an anniversary present for a couple who entertain. Put the year they married in the bottom line and the sign quietly does two jobs.
Care
Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Metal polish will strip the finish, so leave it alone.
