The Sign
A round plaque set inside a toothed cog, with the initial in a smaller gear at the top and a run of jointed pipework across the foot. The family name curves through the center, the bar line under it, the year at the bottom of the circle.
Every element is a working shape rather than an ornament. The teeth are properly cut, the pipe has unions and flanges in it, and the gear behind the initial has a keyway.
Craftsmanship
Industrial designs fail when the machinery looks decorative, so the cog teeth are grown over a machined form and finish square rather than rounded. The pipe run stands proudest of anything on the sign, the cog border next, the lettering lowest, all within 2 to 5 mm of the blackened ground. The disc is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid through, which is what stops it feeling like a stamped tin sign.
Built to last
UV-protective seal across the face. The raised brass keeps its warmth and the recesses stay dark, so the machinery does not flatten out over time.
Personalization
Family name, bar line, year, and one initial for the gear at the top. The circular field is tighter than the shaped signs, so keep the surname reasonably short or we will set it smaller. WHISKY is what the renders show; WHISKEY is set on request, and so is anything else you want on that line. An emailed preview comes first.

Mounting
Three options, chosen when you order.
- Keyhole slots: the straightforward way, two screws.
- Peel-and-stick tape: sealed adhesive strips fitted before dispatch. Good on paint, tile and finished timber.
- Floating stud mount: gusseted studs that lift it off the wall and put a shadow line under it.
Fixings and instructions are included whichever you take.
Where it works
Loft conversions, exposed brick, black steel shelving, a garage bar with the tools still on the wall. It looks completely at home next to Edison bulbs and copper pipe.
Gifting
An engineer, a machinist, a motorcycle builder, anyone who owns more spanners than glasses. The pipework is the detail that gets remarked on.
Care
Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Metal polish will strip the finish, so leave it alone.
