The Sign
A plaque cut to the profile of a barrel seen from the side, bellied out at the middle and banded top and bottom, with the staves raised individually down the face. An oak leaf sits at the foot and the initial is set in a circle at the top. The family name runs across the belly of the barrel, the bar line below it, the year at the base.
This is the barrel from the front, not the cask head. The staves and the hoops are what carry it, and the outline itself is doing half the work before you read a word.
Craftsmanship
Each stave is grown as its own raised strip with a shadow line between it and the next, which is why the face looks curved rather than flat. The hoops stand above the staves, the lettering sits into the belly, and the whole relief range is 2 to 5 mm off the blackened ground. The plaque is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid through, and the shaped edge is finished all the way around, not just at the front.
Built to last
Sealed under a UV-protective finish. It will not fade or cloud, and there is nothing in the body to corrode in a damp cellar.
Personalization
The family name, the bar line, the year, and one initial for the circle at the top. The belly of the barrel is the widest part, so that is where the surname goes and it takes a long one. The renders show WHISKY; type WHISKEY and we set WHISKEY. An emailed design preview comes before production.

Mounting
Three options, chosen when you order.
- Keyhole slots: the straightforward way, two screws.
- Peel-and-stick tape: sealed adhesive strips fitted before dispatch. Good on paint, tile and finished timber.
- Floating stud mount: gusseted studs that lift it off the wall and put a shadow line under it.
Fixings and instructions are included whichever you take.
Where it works
Above a keg bar, at the end of a shelf of bottles, on the door of a drinks room. The shape reads instantly at distance, which makes it a good choice for a wall you see from across a room.
Gifting
For a bourbon collector or someone who has just finished a cellar. The barrel shape says what the sign is before anyone gets close enough to read the lettering.
Care
Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Metal polish will strip the finish, so leave it alone.
