The Sign
A round plaque with thistles worked around the field, heads full and leaves spiked, and a band of tartan lattice running across the foot. The initial sits in a circle at the top. The family name curves through the center, the bar line under it, the year at the base of the round.
The lattice band is the detail that dates it properly. It is cut as a real over-and-under weave rather than a printed check, so it reads as cloth.
Craftsmanship
Thistle heads are made of dozens of fine bracts, and the only way to keep them separate at this size is to grow them over a sculpted form. The heads stand proudest, the leaves next, the lattice below that, and the lettering lowest, everything falling within 2 to 5 mm of the blackened ground. The disc is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid through.
Built to last
A UV-protective seal holds the finish. Nothing rusts, nothing fades, and the fine spaces between the thistle bracts stay dark instead of silting up with a dull haze.
Personalization
Family name, bar line, year, and one initial for the circle at the top. The round field is tighter than the shaped signs, so a very long surname will be set smaller rather than pushed into the border. The renders show WHISKY, which suits this design, but WHISKEY is set on request. An emailed design preview comes first.

Mounting
Pick one of three at checkout.
- Keyhole slots: cut into the back, two screws and done.
- Peel-and-stick tape: heavy sealed strips, applied here before it ships. Nothing to drill.
- Floating stud mount: studs that hold it clear of the wall, so the edge reads as a silhouette.
All three arrive with the fixings and a short instruction card.
Where it works
A Scottish bar, a snug, a hall with a stag's head already on the wall. It goes with dark green, oxblood and heavy timber, and it is a good round shape to break up a run of rectangles.
Gifting
Burns Night, a Scottish wedding, a whiskey drinker's birthday. The tartan band is usually the thing that decides it.
Care
Dry cloth only, lightly. It does not want polishing and it does not want washing.
