About the Metal
The whole piece is metal and nothing else. Electroforming grows metal onto a form until the wall carries a thickness of its own, so the petal edges and the seeded center are metal through and through rather than a finish sitting on something softer underneath.
This version is made in one finish, gold with an antique wash. The wash darkens where the metal dips between the petals and stays bright along the raised ridges, which is what makes the radiating texture readable from across a room rather than only up close.
How It's Made
The tray takes the shape of an open sunflower, petals fanning out from a textured middle that stands slightly proud of the base. It measures 9" in diameter and 1.5" high, and that depth is the point: it is enough to hold rings and earrings at a bedside without them sliding out, which a flat dish will not do. The rim is the lifting point, so the petal line stays unbroken all the way round.
