Why do two agate pieces in the same color look different?

They come from different slabs. The banding and the outline are set by the stone.

Can agate hold food?

Dry food that sits on its own, such as wrapped cheese, crackers or fruit. It is not a cutting board.

Will the metal edge wear off?

No. It is electroformed metal bonded to the stone, not paint or plating.
